Barbet Dog Breed & Characteristic

Barbet is one of the oldest dog breed from France. This dog has major physical appearance of thick hair like wool and choppy that protect it from cold temperatures and humidity. Barbet fur consists of only one color such as black, brown, yellowish brown, yellowish-brown or red. Other physical characteristics of this dog is a short neck, round eyes are dark brown and generally, as well as having long hair and beard are quite extensive. Barbet has a height of 58-65 cm in males, whereas females 53-61 cm Barbet. This breed likes water and fun pool activities. Several diseases are vulnerable to attack Barbet hip dysplasia (hip dysplasia), ear infections, hernias, and epilepsy. Average age of these dogs ranged from 12-15 years.

It is believed that the original water dog is the first Barbet breed dogs. Origin of this breed is not fully known, but may be crossed with stocks and some herding dogs griffon. These dogs are not known outside of France. This breed is very capable in taking, and used for hunting waterfowl and also as a loyal friend.

Temperament 
This breed is very intelligent and interested in learning. These dogs love to work, and also eager to please their owners. You will find this breed very calm, flexible, obedient but at the same time of life. Some dogs may be but very shy. Seeing that this is a working dog, they love water and are involved in taking the job. They will also do very well as a family pet. This breed will not do well when confined to a kennel, because they will probably fade away in such an environment. It is suggested that the dogs are taken for a walk on a regular basis so that they can get a chance to exercise and enjoy themselves.

Care 
Barbet hairy coat of a dog has a very high care needs. You will find that these dogs become tangled coat is fairly easy, especially when the dogs get in the water very often. In order to grow properly coat, the puppy should be shaved completely when they are between 4-6 months. If the coat regularly shaved, the coat will also grow thicker. Barbet dog should have a thick wool coat if it will be used for the purpose of the show. A coat is used for this purpose should not have any mats or knots. Special attention should be given to this dog's ears, and hair in it should be removed.

Training 
Barbet is a dog that will learn very quickly. They are also very sensitive to sound their handlers as dogs love to please them. It is also important to be consistent in training the dogs, because dog handlers will not take seriously that there is no authority.

Barbet dogs tend to suffer from health conditions such as hip dysplasia, cataracts and skin allergies that have been seen in several lineages
